Backflow Prevention – 40 hours
This course (half lecture and half hands-on training) provides the testing and
maintenance methods for backflow prevention assemblies.
Participants will learn how to recognize various backflow preventers and the proper procedures for testing
each assembly under a variety of test conditions. This course
will review all the rules, codes and regulations on the backflow requirements. Upon completion of the class, students can test at their local agency or
county to be certified for that area.

Basic Computers – 40
hours
This course will help students navigate within a computer. The instructor will go through what is on the desktop, finding and opening
programs, working with the control panel, working with files and e-mail. This is an important class for those interested in beginning a CAD class
but have very little or no experience.

Clean Room Protocol/Orbital Welding – 40
hours
This course provides training in clean room technology, as well as orbital welding
certification. Students will become proficient in programming
and calculations associated with the operation of the orbital welding process required in high purity piping
systems. After passing this class, you will receive a 6-month
certification in Orbital Welding from NITC.

Competent Person – 10
hours
This class will help prepare students to identify existing and predictable hazards in
the surroundings, or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous or dangerous to
employees. This course also covers who has the authorization to
take prompt corrective measures to eliminate these conditions.
Anyone with a Competent Person Completion Cards could be designated as the Competent Person by their employer
for a particular aspect of the job, or possibly the entire job.

Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) – 40
hours
Pre-requisite: Basic Computer
knowledge
This course is designed as an introduction to Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and the
CAD environment. Emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of CAD
software and the creation of two-dimensional CAD piping drawings. AutoCAD drafting software and Windows XP Operating systems are
utilized.

Drawing II – 40 hours
This course will give students the opportunity to become familiar with reading and
understanding mechanical drawings. Students will learn to break
down piping drawings into smaller, more detailed views (isometric drawings). Students will learn how to use these smaller detailed drawings for material
take offs and fabrication.

Drawing III – 40
hours
Pre-requisite: Drawing II
This course will dive further into isometric format and scale drawings, identifying
piping systems, equipment that support them and their layout, including a closer look at the mechanical
sections. Students will learn detailing techniques, what
questions to ask and where to find answer.

Fitter P.I.P.E. Certification – 40
hours
This class will prepare students for the NITC Pipefitter-Steamfitter Certification
exam, which consists of a closed book, 100 question multiple choice written exam given on the last day of
class, with 2 - 2 ½ hours to complete. General knowledge subject
matter covered in this is steam fitting, hydronics, science, instrumentation, air conditioning,
refrigeration, piping mathematics, blueprint reading, welding, rigging, tools and safety.

Instrumentation Level 1 – 60
hours
This is a hands-on course which provides training in the skills required to install
and calibrate instruments used for the process control applications. This is a basic course which emphasizes those skills related to specific
instruments used to measure pressure, temperature, flow or level; and identified as the basic understanding
required by anyone working in this rapidly changing industry.

Instrumentation Level 2 – 60

Pre-Requisite: Instrumentation Level

This intermediate class will continue from where the basic course left off and cover
the fundamentals of instrumentation.

Instrumentation Level 3 – 60

This advanced course will dive into the fundamentals of process controls. The class will provide training in the skills needed to evaluate and
perform analysis on process control systems and begin to encourage and emphasize to the journeyperson the
concept of “system thinking” which is critical to control system evaluation. Also, study in fiber signaling, digital systems and more.

L.A.CityStructural Steel – 40
hours
Pre-requisite: You must be able to
weld.
This course is designed to prepare students to pass the L.A. City Structural Steel
written test. Students will spend all their time in the
classroom learning to identify and understand weld symbols and joint design from the AWS Structural Steel
Code D1.1

Medical Gas – 40
hours
The instruction in this course will focus on the proper procedures and requirements
needed to successfully install Medical Gas Piping Systems.
Topics will include: vacuum system requirements, procedures for
installing copper tube & fittings and brazing procedures.

OSHA-10 – 10 hours
The OSHA 10-hour course is designed to prepare students for safety training for the
jobsite and help employers with OSHA requirements. Training will
cover primary safety hazards affecting construction workers, as well as an overview of the OSHA standards
regulating their work. Students who complete the 10-hour course
will be mailed a UA OSHA 10 and Smartmark Completion Card.

OSHA-30 –30 hours
The OSHA-30 course is designed to provide an in-depth overview of many OSHA
construction standards affecting the health and safety of workers in a construction environment. This helps Employers by providing training to the Competent Person they
designate to inspect the workplace and equipment for hazards affecting their workers. A UA OSHA-30 and Smartmark Completion Card will be mailed to students who
complete this 30-hour course.

Plumber P.I.P.E. Certification – 40
hours
This class will prepare students for the NITC Journey Level Plumbing Certification
Examination. The certification exam is open book and consists of
100 multiple choice questions. The exam is given at the end of
the last day, with 2 – 2 ½ hours to complete. The Uniform
Plumbing Code Book will be used to cover the following: general
knowledge of the Uniform Plumbing Code, sanitary drainage and vents, water supply and distribution and fuel
piping, as well as some trade related experience questions.

Residential Comfort Service & Repair Tech
1
This class will cover basic electricity , basic thermal dynamics, basic residential
comfort, heating and air troubleshooting and brazing techniques.
Residential duct sizing will also be addressed.

UA Certified Valve Repair – 40
hours
This program consists of a mandatory 40 hours of classroom training with a maximum of
8 students. There will be classroom and hands-on training
completed by each trainee. The labs include practical exercises
related to valve packing, fasteners and torque, precision measuring, gate valves, globe valves and butterfly,
ball and plug valves.

UA Foreman Training – 60
hours
Course instruction includes job site supervisory responsibilities, utilization of
manpower, job site scheduling, coordination meetings and laws & regulations pertinent to
construction.

UA Green Systems Awareness – 20
hours
This program will help
participants with the information they need to understand, purchase and utilize energy efficient green
products. This class will use the “Green Awareness Manual” and will
cover five main areas of concentration. The CORE discusses energy
efficiency, management and alternative energies. The HVAC Section
deals with comfort heating and cooling, heating systems and optimized steam systems. The Refrigeration area covers “greenchill” and the practical applications of
green refrigeration system. The Electrical portion discusses energy
production and lighting. The Plumbing section provides material on
water conservation, flow control, high efficiency fixtures, hot water systems, gray water, reclaimed water,
landscape irrigation and fire sprinklers.
Certification requires
students to pass a 100 question multiple choice exam by 80%.
Recertification will be every 3 years by taking an 8 hour UA Green Systems Awareness
Update Class and will not require another exam.

UA Industrial Rigging – 60
hours
This course will offer students the opportunity to further their knowledge of
industrial rigging. Students will learn rigging safety, sling
angles and loads, shackle sizing and requirements, crane requirements and more!
